Torture of Patients at Vardenis Boarding House: How Could This Happen?

Torture of Patients at Vardenis Boarding House: How Could This Happen?
On February 20 at 12:00 PM, the Media Center conducted a discussion on the topic: “Torture of Patients at Vardenis Boarding House: How Could This Happen?”

The speakers were:

Marieta Temuryan, Social-health services monitoring specialist at Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly Vanadzor Office

Mushegh Hovsepyan, Chairman of the NGO “Agenda for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities”

The RA Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs declined to participate in the discussion, citing the presumption of innocence and the fact that the case is currently in the preliminary investigation stage.

Recent reports suggest that the director of Vardenis Boarding House has committed a series of illegal acts, including the torture of patients and withholding of basic necessities such as cigarettes and food. These allegations emerged as a result of joint operational-investigative measures undertaken by the main department of the criminal police, the regional department of Gegharkunik, and the officers of the Vardenis department.
