Media Center, November2, Yerevan. Cultural Figures Propose to Install “Bread Bringer” Arthur Sargsyan's memorial in Yerevan and presented their proposals at Media Center on November 2.

Anahit Tarkhanyan, Architect, Author of the memorial project, says that it symbolizes and resembles the nature of Arthur Sargsyan.

The memorial, according to the project, is a rotating cube that is composed of pillars.

“The diversity of Arthur’s character is emphasized, he was a very competent person with amazing knowledge, and each pillar symbolizes each of his features. We assume that this will be placed in the park near Italy and Beirut streets, in front of the Italian Embassy. It is a very quiet place typical of Arthur, where there is no activity,” Tarkhanyan said.

The memorial is a basalt platform, in the center of which is a small pool. According to Tarkhanyan, the pool symbolizes the purity from which Arthur's essence rises and turns like a hard basalt.

“On the top you see the basalt forms, which are made of glass. It's a sign of Arthur's principle when he took the pain of each representative of the nation and made it a blessing, a smile. On the one side of the pillars, there is a well-known picture of Arthur, and on a small sign we want to write down the famous words of Arthur, which characterize him. "If not me, then who?”

Tarkhanyan mentions this project of the memorial and the proposal will be presented to the Yerevan Municipality.

It should be reminded that Arthur Sargsyan died in on March 16, 2017. He was charged in supporting the Sasna Tsrer, occupying the territory of the Erebuni Police Patrol Service. During the days of the occupation, he broke through the police wall by car and took the food to the regiment.

He was detained on August 2. Later, because of an incompatible illness, the measure of restraint was changed and he was released on December 31. However, Sargsyan was again detained on February 9. He announced a hunger strike the next day, resulting in more serious health problems. His detention was changed in exchange for warranty, and he was transferred from the convicts' hospital to Armenia Medical Center where he died on March 16.

Actress Tamar Hovhannisyan mentiones that it is important to create such a monument in Yerevan.

"Overnight, Arthur Sargsyan became the beloved of all Armenians. Why not to have such a memorial where people can visit?” Tamara Hovhannisyan said.

The actress tells that Anahit Tarkhanyan and she had visited Arthur Sargsyan a few days before his death, and at that time Tarkhanyan came up with such an idea of creating such a memorial dedicated to Arthur.

“This project was born not obligatory, it was born of Tarkhanyan's all emotional and professional work. The city authorities should review their point of view and permit to do something that will not only be for the city, but also for the whole humanity. Armenians around the world will visit this place,” Hovhannisyan said.

Sculptor Garegin Davtyan underlines that the idea of erecting a memorial with the elements of symbolism is a great one.

“Because Arthur Sargsyan himself could have been a character of many human qualities, kindness and generosity,” the sculptor said.

Famous opera singer Hasmik Papyan says she has a great sympathy for Anahit Tarkhanyan's art and this memorial will bring a new culture into the capital.

“Apart from the fact that this is dedicated to Artur Sargsyan, our ancient antique monuments will be replaced by a modern, beautiful, symbolic, European monument. You will see how the content and the shape will have big results. As an architectural solution I am delighted, this will bring our city a new style, a new form, new content and a new culture,” Papyan added.
